Timber Frame Design

Cullen Timber Design's primary area of operation is the design of bespoke timber frames.

Frames range from simple two or three bay cart sheds in green oak, to 2,000m² softwood houses with feature green oak spine beams and joists and expressed oak rafters.

The company has experience of designing with green oak, softwood, glulam beams, and I beams.

Structures can be either highly contemporary or classically traditional.  A timber frame can be used very easily to reflect and enhance the aesthetic of the building.

Cullen Timber Design is familiar with working for independent self builders, property developers, architectural practices of all sizes and timber frame manufacturers.

Consultancy in Computer Aided Design (CAD)

Another area of operation for Cullen Timber Design is that of consultancy in CAD within the timber frame industry.

The company uses Dietrich's software - the most sophisticated software available for the design and manufacture of timber frames. Timber frame companies are increasingly turning to CAD for the design of their frames and Dietrich's offers the best solution on the market.

Cullen Timber Design offers an introduction to the software via on site demonstrations as well as providing training and software support for new and existing users alike.

 

 

 

 

Consultancy in Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM)

As an employee of the first company in the UK to utilise the Hundegger K2 post processing machine, Rob Cullen is well qualified and has the necessary experience to offer advice and guidance in the selection of the most appropriate and cost effective method of frame manufacture whether this be hand cut or machine made.

Cullen Timber Design is in contact with many companies in this country and on the continent which own this type of machinery and are able to manufacture frames on an individual basis.

Planning Applications

Cullen Timber Design offers a full
planning application service which can involve full 3D visualisations as well as the required floor plans, elevations, block and location plans.

By involving Cullen Timber Design at an early stage, relevant creative decisions can be made at the outset of a project which can enhance the design and/or manufacturing process.

Similarly, by using the timber frame software in the concept/visualisation stage, time and money can be saved when producing the actual frame design.

 

Building Regulations/Engineering/SAP

Should the project demand it we can also offer a full building regulation submission service and arrange for full structural calculations to be carried out for the sub-structure and super-structure as well as SAP calculations and air pressure testing.
