Working with industry clients
Cullen Timber Design is a long-established company, with over twenty years’ experience of all designing types of timber frame.
The software that we use can be programmable to suit any system and is second to none in handling timber and steel modelling, list production and fabrication drawings.
Our full-time design team’s roles are interchangeable, ensuring that their expertise is always available for our clients. We act as your consultants, as though we are sitting alongside your team, often providing ‘real time’ responses to any queries. We can often provide cost-saving solutions during the project design stage.
We understand that the needs of each project and each client are unique. This can involve close liaison with key stakeholders, such as clients, architects, engineers, main contractors and installers. Similarly, our team are happy to sit in the background and engage as required.
Designing timber frames that present the detailed requirements for high levels of insulation, airtightness and thermal bridging has become an increasingly important part of our business. Working for a range of clients, we have gained the specialised knowledge that has enabled their projects to meet and exceed the requirements of the Passivhaus standard.
Designing softwood panels that create both conventional and unconventional buildings have constituted a significant part of our everyday business. Experienced at designing both open and closed panel systems, our design team understands how the use of CLS, C24 or KVH can be utilised to create builds that are responsive to both architectural and budgetary concerns. We also have considerable experience in detailing hybrid frames which employ glulam, structural steel and either structural or decorative green oak.
Producing green oak frame designs has been at the centre of our business since its inception. Cullen Timber Design has over twenty years' experience of designing oak structures.
Whether you require a traditional frame designed to enhance a home with additional living space, or a frame that will create a home that is startling in its modernity, we pride ourselves on the versatility of our design capability.
Whether your frame is to be hand cut using traditional methods or to be produced using CNC machinery, we can offer you advice, guidance and the appropriate level of design detailing.
Designing structurally insulated panels has afforded the design team at Cullen Timber Design the opportunity to apply our knowledge to this thermally efficient and time efficient build method. By utilising our understanding of timber framing techniques within an alternative discipline, we recognise the value of using SIPs as a technique, particularly to self-builders who are looking for fast build times to create thermally efficient buildings.
Clients repeatedly return to us as their design capability for this type of project.
On civic buildings, as well as some private residential projects, glulam post and beam framing can create open span spaces and thus offer a spacious environment and a strong visual impact.
Cullen Timber Design has experience of detailing buildings that will serve the community, providing a dynamic space in which to play, live and learn. These include schools, churches, music venues and village halls. Our projects have demanded the use of complex roof geometry, which our Dietrich’s software is able to manage effectively to produce remarkable results. Understanding that such buildings are brought about through close liaison between end users, architects, engineers and builders, Cullen Timber Design has experience of acting as a central hub, through which the diverse requirements of all interested parties may be collated and acted upon.
