create designs ranging from very large and complex houses to small gazebos and porches

work from very basic, ‘back of an envelope’ type instructions as well as detailed architectural drawings

design within a manufacturer’s established aesthetic, structural protocols and framing methodology

adopt our clients' established jointing preferences

implement a manufacturers’ recognised glazing system, whether it uses a 'direct' or 'rebated' glazing
-
detail any non-structural elements that may be required, e.g. cladding, battens, fixings, joinery and staircases.

supply lists of any metal fixtures, staddle stones, featheredge cladding, that are required for ease of completion
Designing and detailing green oak frames has been a huge part of our business, and one of our senior designers has particular expertise in this area. We have worked with the leading frame companies in the UK along with a great many smaller businesses for whom we are their sole, trusted design resource. We have developed a reputation for understanding how green oak performs as a building material as well as recognising that every oak framer has their own methodology and protocols, of which we are always respectful and sympathetic.
We can:

create planning application drawings from rough sketches

liaise with a preferred engineer, or recommend one of several specialist oak engineers, with whom we have established relationships over the years

Design management

Roundles
A large, full oak frame featuring raised collar trusses and interrupted tie beam trusses.

Beneduce
A storey and a half building featuring interrupted tie beam trusses, a full oak ground floor and external staircase.

McBride
An oak and softwood frame for a private client utilising queen post trusses, oak purlins and wind braces

Heydon
A large garage and room above complex featuring a full oak frame with softwood rafters. Arch brace trusses and post-to sole plate 'K' braces are employed.
